The Animation for Energy Storage Weapons - Guild Wars Forums

I have a Question; Do ALL wands and staves that have the energy storage attribute use the same animation? I know that they can do different types of damage (I have one wand that does earth, one that does chaos and one that does fire, and two staves that deal fire damage). However whenever i actually attack using any of my wands or staves, the animated little glob of energy that shoots out is always the picture of chaos damage. Is this true for everyone else? Do all Estorage weapons use that animation reguardless of actual damage type? Or is it just a bug on my end?

All wands and staffs that have the Energy Storage requirement will do Chaos Damage, and like mesmer weapons, Chaos Damage's animation will always be a purple orb. I have yet to see an Energy Storage staff or wand that does damage other than Chaos damage, and this is after 3 years of playing. I'm guessing the other weapons you are referring to are not Energy Storage and instead are either Fire req, Water req, etc each of which also have their own unique animation.

well here is one of the staves of mine and it shoots out the purple orb, but its obviously not chaos damage since it says fire right there. The reason i ask is because i thought they all did chaos damage too.

Hmmm, you learn something new in this game everyday eh? Well according to that I suppose their are some exceptions, but typically each type of damage will have it's own animation. In this staff's case, fire damage has the chaos damage animation. It could possibly be that this staff is simply bugged.

Yeah i thought so too, thats why i always thought that the staff did chaos damage since it had the chaos animation but i just took the time to actually read it today and it surprised me. Oh well i guess it is a bug of some sort then

Most of the latest "universal" skins deal specific damage types when linked to Energy Storage, but will still shoot the pink orb regardless.

As far as I know, that's true with most inscribable skins that drop with a requirement on primary attributes only - with the exception of the Mesmer version which is usually Inspiration - such as the gemstone serie in EoTN (Onyx, Chrysocola, Turquoise, ...) or the inscribable version of the Zodiac Staff, just to name a few.

So does it actually do fire damage even though the animation is different? Try using mark of rodgort and seeing if they catch on fire when you attack using the staff. I used to have a bugged staff that said fire damage but didn't actually do fire damage.

I tried it out with mark of rodgorts in the battle isles and when i staffed them they did in fact light on fire so it does do fire damage, and it does shoot out the purple orbs.

My Ele wields a ES Onyx Staff that deals Fire Damage. Targets under the effects of MoR indeed take fire when hit by the purple orb.

thats the same thing that happens with me. Which leads me to ask is it safe to assume that all Energy storage weapons will shoot out a purple orb even if they don't deal chaos damage specifically? If so that should be noted down on a wiki somewhere.

Well i took some screens of the various estorage weapons i have and they all have non chaos type damages yet fire the purple orbs. just saying it looks like all estorage weapons have the chaos damage animation reguardless of actual damage type

looks like only estorage weapons too.. scepters and staffs- like spawning power with lightning damage will have a lightning ball.. they must have thought it looked cool or something for elementalists

a energy storage tormented staff is chaos damage too
